1 – What made you choose CBE as your EPoS supplier?

For as long as we have had an EPoS system it has been with CBE. We done a lot of research regarding EPoS systems prior to that, but the decision we made back then was most definitely the right one. We get an excellent service from CBE which is very important, because as every retailer knows if the tills go down the door would have to close.  The reports provided by CBE are excellent and are being continuously developed.

2 – What are the main trends you are observing within your industry?

With Covid we are seeing a lot of changes in our customers buying trends.  The fresh section has been affected with the lack of transient trade, but the trolley/large basket shopper has increased.  The off licence and take home are sections that have seen big increases as people are not getting out to bars & restaurants.  Our hardware section has also seen an increase as everyone is getting around to doing them jobs that were put on the long finger.

3 – Can you describe what a typical working day looks like for you?

My typical day takes in a bit of everything, most of which involves consulting with senior staff in relation to layouts and performances of each section.  Retail changes so quickly, and it’s important that we are all aware of the next big event or next big thing.  Having the store looking well helps the store perform well.

4 – What do you love about your job?

Meeting people and having the chat with them.  Having what the customer wants.  Bringing new concepts into the store and seeing them perform.

5 – What do you feel is your greatest strength?

Not being afraid to try out new things and taking that chance with new trends.

6 – How do you think your employees would describe you?

I would hope that I’m fair with them, I wouldn’t ask them to do anything that I’m not prepared to do myself.

7 – What job role within your company would you be terrible at?

Most definitely the tills – I would have a queue out the door.

8 – What is the most heartwarming thing you have ever seen an employee do for a customer?

It’s hard to pick one thing as we have been very lucky with our staff members. I suppose when you are a rural store you know a lot of your customers personally, and something as little as having a chat with them in these current times means a lot to them.  Like every store we have had the experiences of delivering groceries, dropping customers home, changing flat tyres etc.

9 – How do you relax after a hard day at work?

Go home, switch off, and spend quality with my family.

10 – Finally, if you could have lunch with one person, who would it be, and why?

Muhammad Ali. I’d say he would be a bit of craic
